UFC Fighter Kenny Florian

As part of my UFC related postings, I am featuring Kenny Florian for this round and I am glad to present to you some notable facts about his life as a mixed martial artist. And by the way, Florian is fighting in the UFC 118 this weekend, where BJ Penn rematches with Frankie Edgar (main event) and boxing figure James Toney debuts in UFC by fighting Randy Couture.
Who is Kenny Florian by the way? Peruvian-American MMA fighter and he is fighting with two martial arts disciplines – Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai. Currently, Florian is fighting as a lightweight card for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). According to sherdog.com, he is the #6 lightweight contender in the world.
On his early life, Kenny Florian or KenFlo as he is called in the world of MMA, was an outstanding soccer player for Dover-Sherborn Regional High. He also played for the varsity soccer team (NCAA Division 1).
It is after college that Florian got the budding interest on on mixed martial arts and thereby earned his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from a known Prof. Roberto Maia, who was running the Boston Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Kenny is popularly known with his viscous elbow strikes and submission expertise. He is describe by Rogan as “razor sharp”. Florian debuted in MMA in January 2003.
Kenny Florian holds several Ultimate Fighting Championship awards namely 1) The Ultimate Fighter 1 Middleweight Tournament Finalist 2) Fight of the Night Honors and 3) Submission of the Night Honors.
At the present Kenny Florian with the help of his brother run and operate a Martial Arts Center in Brookline, Massachusetts. The center teaches Brazilian jiu-jitsu, muay thai, wrestling, and mixed martial arts.
