Department of Education Launches Brigada Eskwela

The Department of Education or DepEd launched the “Brigada Eskwela” on Monday this week. It is a yearly activity of the agency, in cooperation with the parents and teachers to prepare their respective schools for the coming school opening. The students are expected to attend their first day of classes for the school year 2011-2012 on June 6 (Monday).
During the “Brigada Eskwela“, volunteer parents and teachers performed the necessary repairs, cleaning and other sort of maintenace, using the materials like paints and plywoods that are donated to the schools.
Brigada Eskwela is one of the initiatives that the DepEd is looking into, in order to save significant amount of expenses for the schools. This year, the DepEd estimated a saving of nearly P3 billion in MOOE (maintenance, operating and other expenses).
