Yukio Hatoyama Resigns as Japan Prime Minister. Incumbent Prime Minster Yukio Hatoyama announced his resignation today, June 2, 2010. Hatoyama Yukio (鳩山由紀夫) was born on 11 February 1947 and is a Japanese politician who became Japan’s Prime Minister in September 2009.
Yukio Hatoyama served Japan government as member of the House of Representatives in 1986 and eventually became the president of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ). Hatoyama Yukio came from a prominent political family in Japan.
Yukio Hatoyama is an engineer and professor by profession and is a graduate of University of Tokyo and Stanford University. Hatoyama is known for his advocacy on making Japan and other neighboring Asian countries relation stronger, as well as transparency on the decisions between Japan and America.
As one of his accomplishments, Hatoyama got the Sustainable Development Leadership Award on February 5, 2010 during the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit 2010. The award was given in credit to his efforts in bringing climate change as one of the main issues of the Japanese Government.
Yukio Hatoyama succeeded Taro Aso, who assumed office sometime in September 2008.
