Yahoo photos is closing in favor of Flickr

Yahoo photos will be closing. Just in case some of you are storing some valuable photos there and don’t want them to just disappear in thin air. Good thing, Yahoo offers seamless transfer of photos to Flickr (acquired by Yahoo in March 2005), KODAK Gallery, Shutterfly, Snapfish, and Photobucket. You may also download your photos back to your computer, which I think would be tiresome if you happen to have stored like a hundred or so photos or buy an archive CD from Yahoo’s featured partner.
Dear Yahoo! Photos user, For some time now, we’ve supported two great photo sharing services: Yahoo! Photos and Flickr. But even good things come to an end, and we’ve decided to close Yahoo! Photos to focus all our efforts on Flickr, the award-winning photo sharing community that TIME Magazine has called “completely addictive.”We will officially close Yahoo! Photos on Thursday, September 20, 2007, at 9 p.m. PDT. ……tell us what to do with your photos before we close, after which any photos remaining on Yahoo! Photos will be deleted and no longer accessible. The Yahoo! Photos team
Michael Arrington of the TechCrunch says;
Yahoo Photos is currently the largest photo sharing site on the Internet, with around 2 billion stored photos. Flickr, by comparison, has around 500 million photos. But Flickr is also growing much faster than Yahoo photos and coincidentally has just exceeded Yahoo! Photos in traffic, according to Comscore.

I’m in rage when my old photos on my flickr were no longer there. I’ve searched by tags and in no avail. I wonder how flickr handle bulks of photos on my free account. Do they delete them? Stored it somewhere? Now that you mention photos, where do you think is the best online photo storage for free where I would find it where I’d put it? I don’t think I’m gonna buy space for flickr, it bothers me now.

i believe if you’re on a free account, it only shows the last 200 (or is it 100) photos you uploaded. the rest are there but will only be visible if you delete the other photos. or upgrade to a pro account.

i believe, flickr will hide your photos once you exceed 200, under free account status …as what pao mentioned.

omg! i am wondering, what happens if suddenly wordpress or blogspot says, “that’s it”, and they start closing down? i shudder at the thought of all the journals, photos, and blogs that will disappear from the face of the blogosphere. what to do?

the best thing to do is to make back-ups for everything we put online.
