Supernova: Exploding Star Viewed in 3D
Posted on 05. Aug, 2010 by dimaks in News
For the first time, a group of astronomers got a chance to view the supernova or an exploding star labeled as SN 1987A, which is lying 168,000 light-years away from human reach. Using a very huge telescope, the scientists were able to watch the supernova in 3D.
The first supernova was last seen in 1987. It was the very first ultimate celestial body to have been visible to human naked eye for some 383 years.
The said occurrence was in fact predicted by today’s most recent computer models. The SN 1987A was observed using the SINFONI instrument on the European Southern Observatory’s (ESO) very large telescope that is stationed in Chile.
This is yet of course, another breakthrough in the realm of Astronomy and Astrophysics, as human knowledge continues to zip into the depths of wondrous firmaments of the high skies.
