A military Nomad plane crashed into two houses in Cotabato City, few minutes after its take off from the Awang airport, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao on Thursday at about 11:37am. Witnesses said that the plane was flying too low and thought that it was just gliding for a planned emergency landing. In a snap, it nosedived into two houses in a residential area in Rosary Heights, Cotabato City.
Aboard the plane are Philippine Air Force Maj. Gen. Mario “Butch” Lacson of the 3rd Air Division based in Zamboanga City and 8 other people, who —and a civilian on the ground were killed in the crash at 11:37 a.m. Thursday, Airforce authority said.
The pilot was able to radio to the Airport controller that there was a “Power Loss” – a not so strange to happen for a decades old airplane, which was bought sometime in 1975 from Australia.
The nomad plane was piloted by Capt. Genaro Gaylord Ordonio and 1Lt. Angelica Valdez. Belina Mondrano, a civilian on the ground died when the plane nosedived.
