You do remember the first man to set his foot on the moon on the 20th of July 1969 right? Well, on Thursday, Neil Armstrong turns 80 and that just strengthens man’s memoir and legacy on science and research. Armstrong’s very first footprint on the surface of the extraterrestrial world made him an instant hero.
Upon landing and stepping into the wondrous plane, Neil Armstrong uttered these words:
That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.
Indeed, the leap was gargantuan and we have been reaping the fruits of his deed, many decades ag0.
Neil Armstrong was the commander of the Apollo 11 mission. He was joined by a fellow astronaut named Buzz Aldrin. The two moon-walkers explored the environment, took photos and planted several instruments for further research efforts.
Armstrong and Aldrin planted a plaque on the moon with the following statement:
Here men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the moon. We came in peace for all mankind.
