Earthquake Hits China, April 14, 2010. At least 400 persons died and 10,000 injured while many were left buried under piles of debris during the sudden earthquake in Western China today.
According to China’s earthquake agency, the earthquake registered a magnitude of 7.1 while all throughout the day, at least 18 aftershocks were felt. The earthquake pulled off from Yushu County – a remotely mountainous area where ethnic Tibetans reside. National broadcast reported that “90 percent of the homes in the county seat, Jeigu, had collapsed“.
There are about 20 children missing – buried under the heavy wreckage of schools while many local residents are still trapped under the dilapidated buildings.
Two years ago, another strong quake took place in China and it claimed 87,000 lives in the neighboring Sichuan Province.
As of late, at least 32 survivors had been pulled out from under the massive debris.
I wonder where is the next place for this rounding tour of earthquake across the globe. We’ve already seen the devastation brought by the Haiti earthquake and that 8.8 magnitude in Chile. The trend is almost predictable, as I see it.
