Corruption Perception Index for 2009
Posted on 16. Jan, 2010 by dimaks in News
The determination of Corruption Perception Index or CPI is a yearly activity being conducted by TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL. This publication reveals the ranking of countries worldwide in terms of perceived corruption, expressed in CPI score. The survey used 180 countries – scored on the scale from zero (highly corrupt) to ten (highly clean).
In my 2008 Corruption Perception Index post, we found that Denmark, New Zealand and Sweden composed the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rank respectively. This time around, New Zealand rose to the 1st rank, followed by Denmark, then Singapore landed on the 3rd spot, pushing down Sweden to the 4th. Last year, Philippines was in the 141st spot and now in the 139th. A two levels improvement (perhaps?), at least in the eyes of this worldwide corruption index survey.
Anyway, here is the Top 10 Countries In The 2009 Corruption Perception Index Research.
1. New Zealand CPI score: 9.4
2. Denmark CPI score: 9.3
3. Singapore CPI score: 9.2
4. Sweden CPI score: 9.2
5. Switzerland CPI score: 9.0
6. Finland CPI score: 8.9
7. Netherlands CPI score: 8.9
8. Australia CPI score: 8.7
9. Canada CPI score: 8.7
10. Iceland CPI score: 8.7
You may want to take a look at the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) 2009 – Interactive World Map provided by edutube.org or the whole ranking of the countries from TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL.
And borrowing a remark from kouji;
hopefully someday the philippines will find its way into the upper reaches of those rankings
