Arroyo and the $329-million ZTE Deal

The Sandiganbayan finally made a move by summoning former president, the current Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to attend the hearing on the $329-million ZTE Deal – a National Broadband Network (NBN) project.
It can be recalled in April 20, 2007 that the Arroyo administration signed a contract with Zhong Xing Telecommunications Equipment (ZTE) Corp., a Chinese corporation in Hainan China. Pressured by lots of alleged irregularities in the deal, the said project had to be cancelled by the administration.
On Tuesday, a subpoena was brought to the office of House secretary general Marilyn Barua-Yap by process server Danilo Kempis of the Sandiganbayan security and sheriff services office.
Barua-Yap confirmed receiving the subpoena but refused to give the media a copy of it.
Comes Monday, the anti-graft court will be having Arroyo to shed light on the issue.
Wow! I don’t know how long has this issue been on the hot seat but at least, finally the investigation comes on stage and I guess things can be resolved? Oh well, let’s wait and see how will this ZTE Deal Scandal go.
