The 2008 Corruption Perception Index

On September 23, The 2008 Corruption Perception Index (CPI) was published by the TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL, The Global Coalition Against Corruption. The CPI 2008 revealed that Denmark, New Zealand and Sweden got the highest rank, scoring 9.3 each. Singapore ranked 4th, while Finland (CPI = 9.0) and Switzerland (CPI = 9.0) ranked 5th. Iceland (CPI = 8.9) and Netherlands (CPI = 8.9) took the 7th and 8th place respectively, while Australia (CPI = 8.7) and Canada (CPI = 8.7) raked in the 9th and 10th place. If you are curious of the Philippines’ CPI, it got 2.3 and ranked 141st. The bottom 5 countries were Afghanistan, Haiti, Iraq and Somalia.
Using composite indexes, the Transparency International CPI is a process that measures the perceived levels of public-sector corruption in a particular country, drawn on different expert and business surveys. In this CPI, there were a total of 180 countries scored on a scale from zero (highly corrupt) to ten (highly clean).
The ranking also considered “Confidence Range” as support variable in ranking the surveyed countries.
