The Origin of Engagement Rings

Engagement Rings were used during the Roman times. It was practiced again in the Western World during the 13th century. According to history, the first well-covered occasion where an engagement ring was used was during the time when Archduke Maximilian of Austria decided to engage with Mary of Burgundy.
But before the famous use of engagement rings, other things were also used as such. During the 19th century, the bride-to-be may receive a sewing thimble. This was practiced by those who are in some religious groups that consider jewelries as one precious item to offer and signify engagement.
It was at the end of the 19 century when the use of engagement ring got popular in the lands of the West. Similarly, diamonds became well-known and used for the same purpose during 1930s.
While many people nowadays often look for designer engagement rings for their expression of engagement to their beloved, the Romans and eventually, the West have got some big influence in propagating the practice. If you know the historical basis of what I am referring to, you also know what I am talking about that certain influence.
