Saturday quake!
Posted on 14. Jun, 2008 by dimaks in Life
While checking emails and reading through some news this morning at around 8am, a quake strucked, made our ceiling lamps, plastic curtains, and hanging picture frames swung. The glasses and plates in the cupboard clinked. I immediately went into the bedroom to check on our still slumbering kiddo but he was fine and still on his stomach sound asleep.
Here is the breaking news from the Inquirer.net:
TOKYO, Japan — A powerful earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale struck northern Japan Saturday, the meteorological agency said.
The earthquake struck in Iwate prefecture, some 500 kilometers (300 miles) north of Tokyo, and rattled buildings in the capital.
There was no immediate word on potential damage or casualties. The agency did not issue a tsunami warning.
We live in the 3rd floor and we felt that swing quiet disturbing. I wonder what our friends living in the 7th floor felt.

Knee-shaking and screaming of course, I know I’m chicken. I live in the 13/F and the last time I felt an earthquake was only a tremor 3.0 in richter scale but it was like a big load of truck passing by pero BIG deal. HK has never experienced an earthquake in the past. Nakakatakot dito.
Buti naman ok kayo dyan, 7.0 was similar to Sichuan earthquake ata. Was this your first experienced while living there ba?

7.0 and yet no major damage to buildings. that’s unlike Szichuan where parents are blaming corrupt officials for being lax on the building codes leading to the collapse of schools.

K,
There have been countless shakes ever since I landed the land of the rising sun. This country is lying on a bed of fault lines. We’re ok though, thanks.
manilenya,
salamat
Wil,
It’s not a “no damage at all” quake: It centered in the northern prefecture of Japan and it collapsed some slopes, killed three people and at least 79 injured, according to this news.

nabasa ko sa dyaryo nong nasa Singapore ako, isang buong malaking building inusog kasi matatamaan ng ginagawang high-way.

manilenya,
oo, mula sa kaliit-liitang bagay hanggang sa isang buong building parang lego na lang dito. building construction nga e, isang linggo makikita mong covered ang buong site, the following few weeks, tapos na. teka ba’t napunta sa construction to?
