Why The Philippines?

I’m asking myself why recently, Philippines has been the favorite destination of typhoons? We are all aware that typhoon Ondoy swept Metro Manila and some of its immediate provinces, took lives and damaged a lot of properties. Then while we were still dealing with the after shock effect, another typhoon (Ramil) came with all its fury down poured to the norther region of the country. This week, another tropical cyclone named Santi (international name: Mirinae) entered the east of Central Luzon.
Mostly, the victims of these natural occurrences are poor and helpless people hoping for a speedy emergency assistance from the government. But for some reasons, access to the affected areas is somewhat difficult. There was a time during the height of typhoon Ondoy in Metro Manila where coast guard rescuers needed to travel and transport their rescue boats from kilometers away. I am curious why is there no satellite stations or offices for this kind of national service? The government could have designated or at least devised a plan that institutes the placement of support arms and stations for emergency responses and stuff. In such a way, they won’t have to travel from a very remote location.
What is worst than the above are the politicians taking advantage of the relief distribution and operation. Why would you have to wait for long hours for your relief assistance share just because a politician has not yet arrived? I mean, those foods and clothing for the victims are supposed to be distributed the soonest time possible. Bull crap isn’t it! People are dying out there, thirsty with their stomachs aching due to being stranded many days and nights without access to anything but the roof of their drowned houses.
I don’t blame the government and politicians alone. The common people has their share too. The calamity we are facing these days is but a collective sum of our wrong doings, especially to the mother nature. Learn and practice proper waste disposal and continue with it as long as you live, teach your children about it, and share your knowledge and advocacy to your community. Old saying it maybe but we have to start from ourselves!
