In the Philippines, an individual is required to pass the Civil Service Professional Exam or Civil Service Exam, aka CSC examination, before he/she can be allowed to become a civil servant. It is often required in applying Government jobs and come in two kinds: 1. Professional and 2. Sub-professional. The former is given and can be taken only by those who have completed a college degree or reached required total number of units, while the latter can be taken by almost graduated students and have reached certain allowable academic units.
What is civil service exam? ..is a comprehensive exam given to those who want to become a civil servant, a term often used to refer to a professional job in government. Passing the exam is a prerequisite to many government jobs at the local, state and federal levels. These civil service jobs may each require a different civil service exam, depending on the situation. Questions are generally split between those related to general knowledge and academics, as well as specific knowledge requirements based on the job. (wisegeek.com)
Passing The Civil Service Exam can be quite tough to some but you can take some preparatory actions and tips to get through the ordeal. Just like when I took my own Civil Service Exam back in many years ago (hehe), where there were no available online materials around that I can turn to, like online portals for GMAT prep and the like, all I could do was to barrow a book-type reviewer from neighbors, as well as read the Webster’s dictionary and solve simple mathematical problems on my own. With my condition back then, passing the exam was hard. I am glad that with my simple preparations, I made it through and now enjoys a permanent position in a certain Government unit.
So what are the tips that I can share? Here they go!
- Review your old notes. Go through your seemingly forgotten materials and subjects and refresh yourself. You don’t want to get stuck during the test because you forgot how to convert decimal to fraction numbers. Review basic grammar rules and correct sentence use and construction.
- Do a dry run of the test. Most probably, you have the knowledge on how long the test would be running. With that, get a reviewer and perform the test like it is the real examination day. This way, you get familiar with the exam pressure during the real day. And also, you get to have a glimpse on what subjects and items are to be expected in there.
- Use your time wisely. Time yourself and try to plan your time consumption. In other words, manage your time and use it wisely. Don’t just stare at the ceiling because you cannot decide whether the answer is a or b or c, etc. Go to the next item should you be in this dilemma.
- Eat just enough before the exam. Having enough intake before your Civil Service Exam will save you from a manifest disaster. Imagine the feeling of having a call of nature while trying to read and comprehend your word problems in basic algebra
You don’t want that right? - Get enough sleep. Yes, sleep early and get enough rest.
- Follow the instructions. Last that I can think of right now is that, try to follow the examination instructions. You might get your answers null and void and go home with a huge FAIL sign on your forehead.
That is all for now! If you got something more to add, please don’t hesitate to add them here by posting a comment.
