Of cooking, foods and laziness
Posted on 01. Mar, 2007 by dimaks in Life
I have not been cooking my meals for about a month now. I don’t know why I seem to be losing my blossoming passion for cooking. It started one day my rice stock was over and I keep on reminding myself to buy that 5-kilos pack at the nearest shop, but I always end up eating at the restaurants along the way. Few days ago, I learned about the newly opened Sri Lankan restaurant at about 15 minutes bicycle away from my dormitory. D and A decided to try the resto out and well, i don’t know, though I like spicy foods, I did not seem to have a good first meeting with the foods there in Amma Kariya. I just didn’t like the feel of the spices they used in the food we ordered. So, D and I agreed, it would have been better if we went to Mira, an Indian restaurant. Yes, curry and nan bread are awesomely gorgeous duo!
Aside from that, I think I am about to get tired of the foods that can be found in the shokudos (cafeterias) near our department building. And the pasta in the coffee shops? well, I can only eat seafood pasta there so, I am bound to get tired of it too.
One early morning, I suddenly craved for this common pinoy breakfast – you know, the infamous sinangag (fried rice), tuyo or danggit (dried fish, with white vinegar on the side for dipping), and fried eggs. I wanted to cook but, I still got no rice and also, dried fish here are way expensive. Sometimes I thought of having them sent from the Philippines
But anyway, I tried going to Sukiya, along Higashi Odori (East main street). It’s a 24-hrs restaurant – very fast service and cheap price. The breakfast set below (rice, beef, egg, and miso soup) goes for around 400 yen.
I like the service here, its fast.. feels like I’m buying from a vending machine. Just one push of a button and your food is ready in the dispenser slot. In Sukiya, upon sitting, you will be welcomed through a cup of oolong tea (and of course you can refill later, as many times you want). After that, the waiter will be waiting for your order.
D told me that maybe next time, I should try the Thai resto nearby. So I said ok, that will be good I guess. Now I’m thinking when will I regain my cooking passion (as if)
Maybe until I forcefully drag myself to buy my groceries? I guess so.
Uh, and I’ve been having a frequent carbo-load for over a month now. The past days, I feel heavier on my bicycle than before. Oh no! look at my waistline! I guess too, I need a more calorie burning activities – visit the gym perhaps or do some sports. I don’t know.. reduce rice? more vege? time will tell hehe.

Sometimes you cook in, other times you eat out. Restos: sometimes you choose right, sometimes you miss. Sarap ng buhay. Lalo na pag tapos na ang Nihonggo exams. Tapos na nga ba? Good luck whatever you do.

Hi Dimaks! Naku, carbo-loading… I can totally relate! And this is just probably a phase you’re going through. If you get tired with all those restaurants/fastfoods that you go to, you’ll be forced to cook again and will most likely regain that passion lost
By the way, I finally used the tux you gave me.
Happy Friday!

Si Baggy rin non, suki ng mga konbini dahil tamad magluto. Palagi obento ang kinakain, tumaba tuloy, hehe.
Ang hirap naman kasing magluto for just one person. Either maraming sayang or kakainin mo yung ulam for one whole week.

same here, dimaks, i do like spicy foods, particularly south asian food, but the sri lankan food simply did not go with my taste. i have tried it many times during my frequent visits to the country.

[...] Mar 20, 2007 in Health and Food, Japan Delights, Thoughts, Life After knowing that I got no more meats and veges in my fridge to cook for dinner, I decided to just go to the nearest restaurant and get my hunger addressed ASAP. I only had a brunch so by 7pm, it felt like there is some kind of a riot happening inside my stomach. So off I went to this Chinese restaurant that is around 10 minutes bicycle away from my dormitory. Upon arriving, it looked like a group of students happened to book a reservation for a party, so I opted to find another restaurant. My quick choice – Sukiya. [...]

the trouble with restos is that you are never sure how much of the msg (is there msg there?) or preservatives or whatever that you would not normally place in your food if you were to cook yourself. and the extra lbs, careful, careful…:)
