Modal Shift

First morning on bicycle going to my Nihonggo class at around 7 o’clock in the morning. The temperature was cold, as spring season visits Japan in the month of april. Barely a week ago, the truth was, I was surprised by this climate knowing that I never had the chance to experience such in my home country. In this new place of temporary abode of mine, sun rises and shines so bright, yet the wind strikes like a cloth soaked in a bucket of ice. I nearly bought a pair of hand gloves just to stay with such a new environment. But then, I fought the feeling and decided just to try to adopt it. Well, I was successful I guess, though I needed to wear jacket everyday. Rain poured that morning which added the cold breeze of the winds I have been having everyday.
So what made me took a shot of this moment? The truth is, my scootering passion swept into my mind and remembered the times where I use to ride my Honda scooter during weekends with my scootering group back in the Philippines, after stressful weekdays of office work loads. We used to take pictures of our riding adventures and endlessly discuss about it after we return back home.
I don’t know if I should be sad or enjoy the new phase of riding I have by then. I have never owned a bicycle, how much more with riding it often times. So the truth is, I missed my 90cc scooter – my teeny weeny road racer that always catches other bikers’ attention due to its loud exhaust pipe and quite a stylish paint theme of black and teal. But now, I don’t even have a handle grip to squeeze to speed off but instead, a pair of legs and feet to pedal. Well in fairness, it is a healthy new way of riding – literally no dusts and smokes from burned gases on the road but cool air waved by the big trees all along the way I am traversing everyday.
I have a plan in my mind though. Someday, I will get a Japan driver’s license and buy a decent scooter, plus riding gears. Who knows ![]()
