Seen the leaked U.S. video showing deaths of Reuters’ Iraqi staffers, as well as the civilians around? I saw this in the Reuters news a while ago. The said leaked video is said to be acquired by the group WikiLeaks. They got hold of an encrypted video of the July 12, 2007 military attack in Iraq.
In relation to this leaked US video, a US defense official recognized the said material as (audio and video) authentic.
Major Shawn Turner, a spokesman for U.S. Central Command, regrettably spoke on this incident saying;
We regret the loss of innocent life, but this incident was promptly investigated and there was never any attempt to cover up any aspect of this engagement.
In the leaked US military in Iraq war video, there is this video game like console showing a target cross hair pointing to the ground where there are several group of people in Baghdad neighborhood. In the said group, there were Reuters staffs: photographer Namir Noor-Eldeen, 22, and his assistant and driver Saeed Chmagh, 40, who both died in the shooting spree from the sky.
The helicopters identified as Apaches fired its gun at the gathering of the said group of people, about 9 around, at tracked two of them – Namir and Saeed.
The helicopter opened fire on the small group, killing several people and wounding others. Minutes later, when a van approached and began trying to assist the wounded, the fliers became concerned the vehicle was occupied by militants trying to collect weapons and help wounded comrades escape.
So the the Apache helicopters requested permission to attack the van.
“Come on, let us shoot,”
said one voice, apparently from among the crews in one of the Apache helicopters.
The fliers were granted permission to engage the van and opened fire, apparently killing several people in and around the vehicle.
Two children wounded in the van were evacuated by U.S. ground forces arriving at the scene as the Apache helicopters continued to circle overhead.
I have not seen the said leaked U.S. video yet but photos from Reuters. If you know any link, please share them here.
