Help me define it

The meaning of the word “brethren”
..and also perhaps, explain it? because I have been having a series of discussions with some friends, but they can’t seem to reconcile the term “brethren” with Deutoronomy 18:18, which says;
I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. (KJV)

And one more thing. “like unto thee” meaning like Moses?

What is used in Deuteronomy 18:18 is the plural of the Greek word “adelphos” (Septuagint) which means brother and since it is plural, that word should be translated brothers. Brethren is now commonly used to refer to brothers and sisters in the faith (plural).
I am an author and translator of the Holy Bible from Greek to English and I translate it plainly – from the Greek word to its English equivalent using of course both the Greek and English grammar. I have already published GENESIS, EXODUS, LEVITICUS (Greek-English), THE WILL New Testament (Greek to English), GREEK-ENGLISH (Grammar & Vocabulary), WORDS in THE WILL New Testament, and others which are shown at

I hope to be able to help people understand the Word of God.

according to wikipedia, “Brethren is a plural of brother, although it is rarely used. It is in principle synonymous with “brothers”. The term is mainly used within Christianity, either in (rare) reference to a fraternal order or fraternal military order, or to refer to any of several Christian groups/denominations, most of which are Anabaptist-Pietist.”

You and your friends can’t reconcile the Prophet (is this Jesus?) as coming from among brethren or brothers? Why not? Sorry I am not very knowledgeable but I am curious what the concern was coming from.
I also find it hard to comprehend archaic biblical phrases.
Hmm.. well, yes, could it be Jesus (as the foretold prophet) while he is regarded as God? While at that dilemma, was Jesus like Moses (as what the verse emphasized “like …unto thee”)? Just curious

Oh, I now see your point or your concern. Actually, it nudged me na when i first read your post .. hindi ko lang ma-pin down. Is that passage saying that Jesus comes among men and that He is just a great prophet and not God. Well, we Christians believe that Jesus is true Man and true God. So I guess we don’t have a problem with that.
Personally, I don’t care if Jesus were true man and true god or just great prophet-man. I will still revere and love him. Basta I just know there is a loving God and who cares what His name is.
My point there was not to pin down that Jesus was a prophet or in whatever way or personality people believe, regard or accept him. But rather, who was that foretold prophet, like moses and from among his brethren

If what the page says is what you claim, that Jesus is foretold one, then he must be a prophet as opposed to what the majority of Christians claim that he is God. And if that’s him the foretold, how come he (Jesus) seem to spoke of the same foretold being (who will also not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears) in John 16:13?
It would be very nice if there is a table of comparison between Moses, Jesus and Muhammad in terms of; death, birth and how they led their lives, to serve the passage “like unto thee” then so we can identify who are the same in such contexts.
Might as well, if someone can find the original scripture of the old testament, the one preserved in the Hebrew language and read the songs of Solomon 5:16. Additional interesting fact might be found there.
