Who is Edith Ronne? Edith Ronne was the first woman to work in an Antarctic Expedition. Edith Ronne was also the first non-royal woman to have an Antarctic site named after her and it is Ronne Ice Shelf. Unfortunately Edith Ronne died of Alzheimer’s Disease on June 14, 2009,which halted her most coveted journey. She was born on 13 October 1919 in Baltimore Maryland. Ronne and her husband were the first couple to have reached the South Pole.
Ronne served as the Antarctic expedition’s recorder & historian. She wrote press releases for the North American Newspaper Alliance. Edith Ronne kept a daily log of each of the expedition’s accomplishments. (gather.com)
