A 711 Experience

This actually happened a few weeks ago and I did not have the time to write about it. It was around 2am when my wife asked me to go to 711 to buy something to eat. Since my stomach was also craving for something, I immediately headed to the convenience store and bought some groceries. On the way home, almost right in front of the building from across, I saw these 2 guys struggling to get to the road gutter. When I got close to their location, I saw the other guy lying on the roadside, shivering and unconscious. He randomly gasps and says he can’t breathe. His companion just kept on askingĀ what is happening. He did not seem to know what to do. Then I thought that the guy was drunk and is suffering from certain heart ailment and got attacked that very time. Worst thing was that, the bystanders around were just staring at the scene and they all looked like watching a local movie scene shooting.
Out of my dismay, I tried to help and held the poor guy’s shoulders to let his back rest onto the nearby concrete wall. He was sill catching for a decent amount of air to get through. Luckily, two guys came and asked what is happening. I told the other one to get help from the Barangay office which is a few walks away. In between, we tried to flag down taxicabs but nobody wants to give a ride. Just right when you needed a ride and help, no one seem to have that minute care. When I was in Japan, people there never hesitate to lend a hand when you needed it. No matter if you’re a stranger or a commoner. It’s just so disappointing.
About 15 minutes or so, the Barangay officials came with a motorcycle. FAIL! A motorcycle? What can that little thing, a 2-wheeled vehicle do for the dying fellow? What were your cars, multicabs and vans doing in the office parking areas? I told them to flag down a cab, which they did with the help of their tiny siren. Luck had it that a cab pulled by and drove the man to the nearest hospital. Ah, that pulled out a tension off my neck. I then walked home and my wife fell asleep already. The microwave-heated lasagna I bought turned cold.
What a waste! 2 poor guys, aided by 2 bewildered Barangay men. But it’s still a good thing that the 2 other guys came up and called for additional assistance.
I wonder how did the unconscious man go. Did the hospital use AED on him or perhaps oxygen?I don’t know, but I wish him well.
