The Tsukuba Gakuensai 2008

The Tsukuba Gakuensai (School Festival) 2008 was conducted on the 11th til the 13th of October. Gakuensai literally means school festival. It is where various student groups and organizations participate in a university-wide festivity, which usually involves selling local and international products alongside various cultural presentations and modern day musical concerts by local and invited groups, guests and performers alike. Gakuensai is held at universities all over Japan.
Again, this time of the Tsukuba Gakuensai, the Filipino Association of Students in Tsukuba also known as the FAST, was able to participate in the selling activity.

And these are the foods we sold: Chicken Adobo, Lugaw (porridge), Philippine canned goods and sweet delicacies:

There are lots of things in the Gakuensai – some of them you may find funny and strange depending on your cultural orientation and exposure. Take this one for example:
Apparently, this Japanese guy looks very happy because I pretended to read the flyer he was distributing to the passing festival goers.
At the closing night, we were delighted with stage performances like modern dance presentation and musical bands.
At the very end, there was this beautiful fireworks:

Let me guess, FAST is literally meant a “fastfood”, kasi may ligo sardines and argentina. Wala kayong SkyFlakes.
You should have asked the man nicely for taking a picture of him, but snappy shot made me laugh. Aren’t young Japs dress up something like that in one of those places there, what is that called again?
