TinyURL unbanned from Windows Live Messenger

Who does not know the famous TinyURL?
This URL masking tool have been in the neighborhood for sometime and is becoming rampant among web masters, users and bloggers alike. So much so in the strategies employed by so many blog authors to hide their affiliate’s real URL, in a hope to attract more customers and of course profit. But get this, the service can also be used to spread viruses and malwares. Few years ago, I was in the notion that such tools are meant to shorten the long and tedious URLs for web writing and publishing convenience. But it has changed, just recently.
Microsoft banned the service from getting through in Windows Live Messenger. But based on the update posted in ars technica, TinyURL has been unbanned.
A Microsoft spokesperson told Ars: “We are very serious in our efforts to block virus, malware and other harmful URLs from being passed on to our customers. We’re continually working to improve this process so that we can keep our customers safe without having a negative impact on your Messenger service. We are aware that Windows Live Messenger is currently blocking the URL tinyurl.com. This URL is being blocked unintentionally and we are working to take the appropriate steps to remedy the situation as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and disruption this may be causing our customers.”
As of 4:00pm PDT, TinyURL.com was unblocked from Windows Live Messenger.

No idea what this is. I’m using Twinkle (iPhone twitter client apps) that lets you show tweets from people within X miles of you and can also send a tiny url if you attach an image. Maybe that’s the same thing.
That was a close one for TinyURL « Wakamono’s Portal
