On National Online News Publication – Where Are the Editors?
Posted on 26. Aug, 2008 by dimaks in News
What are your views on The Ethics of Online Journalism? How far can you go with the Article Editing Protocol for a National Online News Publication? Will you maintain your Online Publication Standards or try to play some random cards and skip certain procedures?
I am referring to a certain article in a “National Online News Website“, which I felt was denied (or was it intentionally skipped?) of some level of editing procedures and thus, went online with a grammar and spelling flaws. I am not pretending to be a grammar Nazi here or whatsoever but my floating head due to a sleepless night was all the more heightened upon reading an online article, talking about crucial updates on Philippine Tropical Storm named as “LAWIN“.
What stroke my nerves was not the wrong grammar and spelling but the fact that it is a National Newspaper Website and considering the name, it should have of course, for the longest time ever, accumulated a very rich pool of news editors. But where are they when this certain article was about to be published?
I saw a “FAIL” sign!
The first issue? “….was forecast to…” Yes, that’s a keyword hint!
I could not stress further the importance and what’s at stake in a “National Online News Publication“. It will surely reflect the kind of publication ethics that an organization have and maintain.
Okay then, forget the grammar! But hey, we are already on certain peaks of technological advancements and we got loads of spell checking tools along with our daily corporate softwares at hand.
The second issue? “….depresion…”
Aren’t grammar and spelling included in The Ethics of Online Journalism?
What can you say?
By the way, how was my grammar up there? hehe.
Ahh, I really got to hit the bed and prepare to continue on my research data processing in a few hours.
