Microsoft Office Live Is Coming, Beware Google Docs
Posted on 04. Sep, 2008 by dimaks in News
That’s right, Google Docs Competitor will soon be released in full by Microsoft in the name of Microsoft Office Workspace. Microsoft Office Director of Consumer and Small Business Product Management Kirk Gregersen announced about the public beta of Microsoft Office Live Workspace to go live for the first set of people in the United States who pre-registered for the service at www.officelive.com. Along with the introduction is a community discussion forums on the Office Live Workspace Community site – for the early beta users to share their experiences and tell Microsoft on what to improve, as well as post any related questions.
Gregersen further stressed that the Microsoft Office Workspace is provided as an easy way for people to save their Office documents and other files on the web, share their work and collaborate with each other.
Perhaps, this is one of the reasons why Google launched its own side of the Beta Releasing activities under the guise of Google Chrome Browser? Maybe yes, maybe no.. for all I know, these two giant web and computing industries have been in races far more than I know of.
For more information on this, head onto the Office Live Workspace Discussion Page or to the Office Live Workspace Community site.

I’ll say this. Google doesn’t have much to worry because Microsoft has a lot of ground to cover. For one thing, Google has a fair amount of users that trust them and their products. I see hardly any turning their heads towards Microsoft. On top of that Microsoft is sure to charge an arm and leg as their products never are free. Another thing you got to consider, Google has SalesForce which is far superior than any CRM tool that Microsoft has to offer? My opinion? Google still a winner. Besides, ZOHO offers what Microsoft wants to offer and at an affordable price that small business owners can spend. Just my 2 cents.

MikeC,
I see your points perfectly. So this Microsoft’s move is no doubt an ounce of bite in the competition bag money, hence Google must take its usual precautionary measures, or perhaps it already did even before the release of this Office Live.

Personally I don’t believe that Google have something to worry about. Competition with microsoft in the field will just make Google Docs more massive.

Google Docs is free. Office Live is not. That could make a difference to many people.
