Waistlines are measured by employers to determine the overall health of the company. Those with overweight employees are fined, and unhealthy employees are shamed into becoming thinner, else being labeled a “metabo.” Retirees and family members are also included. The question is asked: could this work in the US with our much larger populace?
Those exceeding government limits — 33.5 inches for men and 35.4 inches for women, which are identical to thresholds established in 2005 for Japan by the International Diabetes Federation as an easy guideline for identifying health risks — and having a weight-related ailment will be given dieting guidance if after three months they do not lose weight. If necessary, those people will be steered toward further re-education after six more months.

yes, why not? there is also this what they call Cool Biz, where during summer, employees were directed to wear light clothings, without the usual coat and tie things.

I think I’d fail the waist test
I also heard that Japan had developed an instant diabetes tester that can be deployed in toilet bowls and urinals. If true this technology is certainly laudable and proves that a society that treats prevention and early detection boosts the lif eexpectancy of its people
