Today, February 7 marks the 200th birthday of the famous English novelist Charles Dickens. He is considered as the greatest in his field during the Victorian period. He is known to have the widest popularity among his contemporary authors; Hence, considered as the responsible talent for some of the known English literature’s most symbolic novel and characters we have known ever since.

Google remembered the significant contributions of Dickens in the field literature, so if you happened to open your Google homepage today, you would be seeing the Google Doodle below.

Charles Dickens was born under the official name Charles John Huffam Dickens (7 February 1812 – 9 June 1870). His writings were mostly published serially, in a monthly installment basis. He developed one of the very important elements of writing style known as the cliffhangers – a technique where a reader or audience will keep on looking to the next installment of a passage or story. Dickens was also known for his “realism, comedy, mastery of prose, unique personalities and concern for social reform.”

On 8 June 1870, Dickens suffered another stroke at his home, after a full day’s work on Edwin Drood. The next day, on 9 June, and five years to the day after the Staplehurst rail crash 9 June 1865, he died at Gad’s Hill Place, never having regained consciousness.

Charles’ last words as reported in his obituary in some national news were allegedly the following:

Be natural my children. For the writer that is natural has fulfilled all the rules of art.

I have been trying to log in to my Amplify.com account for the past couple of days or so but I can’t seem to get in. I also tried to clear up some cookies and tinkered some of the settings that might have caused the inability to access the system but still, nothing happened. I stopped attempting with some ounce of disappointment. Amplify is one the of social media tools that I have been using to spread my blog contents for quite a bit already. Iv’e got a bunch of great followers there, so I really need to get into the site.

Today marks the 374th birthday of Nicolas Steno, a Danish Catholic bishop and scientist who pioneered works and discoveries in the field of both anatomy and geology. Steno begun his research in 1659 in search for the proofs that a statement can only be regarded as truth if it’s written in a book.

If you opened your Google homepage today, you should have seen this Google Doodle dedicated for Steno:

Steno is considered as one of the founders of modern stratigraphy. He worked with James Hutton, who on the other side, is the founder of modern geology. Nicolas Steno got beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1988.

Steno first questioned his religious beliefs on Lutheranism. Due to his questioning, he went on to studying comparative theologies. With his personal observational skills, he later decided to follow Catholicism.

Major works of Steno include but not limited to the following:

• Anatomical Observations (1662)
• Elementorum Myologiae Specimen, seu Musculi Descriptio Geometrica (1667)
• Concerning Solids naturally contained within solids (1669)
• Elementary Mylogical Specimens (1669)
• Discours de Monsieur Stenon sur L’Anatomie du Cerveau (“M. Steno’s lecture on the anatomy of the brain”, Paris 1669)

Today marks the supposed 84th birthday of Robert Noyce – the guy nicknamed as the Mayor of Silicon Valley“. Google joins the world and the love ones of Noyce in remembering his contribution in the field of computer revolution, wherein he co-founded Fairchild Semiconductor in 1957 and Intel in 1968. Noyce also worked on the invention of the integrated circuit or what we call today as “microchip”.

If you happened to open your Google homepage today, you should be seeing this Google Doodle that resembles a form circuitry inside a chip. In the middle is seemingly an etched text for the word “Google“.

Robert Noyce was born on December 12, 1927 in Burlington, Iowa. He died on June 3, 1990 (aged 62) in Austin, Texas. Noyce’s Alma Mater is Grinnell College Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He married Elizabeth Bottomley Ann Bowers and had 4 children namely: William B. Noyce, Pendred Noyce, Priscilla Noyce and Margaret Noyce.
