Canon Laser-Printer Factory Expansion in the Philippines — It could be brought by the high demands for computing works and functions in the country that Canon decides to expand its factory producing laser-printer units in the Philippine lands. By April next year, the site construction in Batangas will be commencing while its actual production will be on a year later. This is indicated in the statements released by Canon itself.

The expected increase in future demand for competitively priced laser printers has created a pressing need for Canon to secure necessary production capacity while making it possible for the company to respond in a flexible manner

Other good news is that, this expansion translates to about 5,000 workers by 2014.

Canon chose Philippines for this project because of labor reasons. The resources are already out there, ready for tapping. Also, Canon said that it is so because many workers in the Philippines are able to speak English.

With two (2) existing subsidiaries in the Philippines, Canon is happy to augment its printer business as part of the firm’s pillar of operation. It goes with its other popular products such as cameras and other office product items.

Wall Street Journal revealed that Facebook will be filing its long-awaited paperwork for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) by Wednesday next week. If this happens, it could be the largest tech IPO that can be had in history, seeing it is bound to yield around $10 billion for the social network. Next to this IPO is a German based company, named Infineon. It raised $5.9 billion in 2000.

That Initial Public Offering of Facebook would then yield the firm an estimated valuation of $100 billion. This is perhaps one of the main driving forces of Facebook in dedicating great times in product offerings. As you may know, Facebook will be releasing new things in a few days or so. For one, there will be new profile templates coming out. Next is the total implementation of “Timeline” – an application that will come to your doorsteps without any regard in asking whether you like to use it or not.

There are varied reactions and predictions concerning the said release of Facebook’s Initial Public Offering. Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis, the former heads of Waterloo, an Ontario-based RIM, announced their resignation from the iconic mobile phone company on Sunday. This could be due to the unpalatable experiences that the company had undergone; It suffered a series of setbacks, thereby losing tens of billions in the market value competition.

The RIM founders Balsillie and Lazaridis will be replaced by Thorsten Heins, an officer who joined the wagon of the company some four years ago. Many of the company’s shareholders blame the two previous leaders for the downfall of the firm’s market value. During the reign of Balsillie and Lazaridis, the company’s worth was $70 billion; It is now $8.9 billion.

Last month, new phones were seen crucial in shaping the company’s future market competitiveness, hence it was intentionally delayed until this year. Sad thing is, PlayBook tablet, RIM’s counterpart for iPad failed to gain consumer support, which forced the company to give out huge discounts just to slide the items off the store shelves.

Lazaridis will be stepping down to a new role in the company. He will be taking the same boat being the vice chairman of RIM’s board and chairman of the said board’s innovation committee.

iPhone 4S vs. Samsung Galaxy S II Drop Test Video — So which of the two (2) phones did you spend your precious dimes on, the iPhone 4S or Samsung Galaxy S II? In a way to shed light on the comparative side of these gadgets, the guys from ElectronicsBreak (http://www.youtube.com/user/ElectronicsBreak) did a 3-level drop method.

The drops performed where 1) Waist high 2) Shoulder height and 3) Face down. In all of the tests done, the Samsung Galaxy S II fared well. This is a great fact finding test indeed. But for the sake of making it more statistically convincing, considering the random factors involved e.g. the way how a phone drops or flips while in the mid-air, a series of similar test should be done. But nonetheless, the test will somewhat give future smartphone buyers to think twice on which unit they should pick for their hard-earned money.
