In basic definition, MMA is a full contact combat sport that permits a wide variety of fighting techniques or strategies from a mixture of modern and traditional martial arts discipline. These techniques may come in striking and grappling, while standing and on the ground. Pound for pound is basically the term used in boxing and martial arts and other combat sports to describe a fighter’s value. This value generally refers to their respective weight classes.
If we trace the origin of Mixed Martial Arts, we can find out that it originated from various places like Europe, Japan and the Pacific Regions, with their fighting competitions that allowed mixed martial arts techniques and area of expertise. With the fast evolution of this sport, the organization running it came up with a way to determine fighters general categorization and of them is the Pound for Pound system. Hence we got the MMA Pound for Pound for the same reason.
