Infected
Posted on 21. Jan, 2007 by dimaks in Blogging
The AWARE media design defined this widely circulating concept in the blogging arena called “meme” as – “viral encapsulated idea, with built-in feedback loop” and the Australian Graduate School of Management put it as “a unit of cultural information that represents a basic idea that can be transferred from one individual to another, and subjected to MUTATION, CROSSOVER, and ADAPTATION”. So what’s up with it? Guess what? I’ve been tagged (or shall I say, infected?) for the first time, by verns. Fortunately, the meme was not that boring to respond to and not a seemingly blackmail type of chain letter. This meme is sensible enough to be regarded as worth-writing for. So here goes about the 5 things that happened to me because of blogging:
- Acquired too many online accounts with those blog tools/widgets – In search for those teeny-weeny blog tools, I ended up accumulating too many online accounts, to the extent that I needed to create a specific label in my gmail account. I’ve also signed up with 4 other blog hostings sites. Though obviously, I am sticking to wordpress.
- Acquired additional friends online – Yes, its just amazing how you guys bring meaning to my day-to-day online experience. Thank you for your times, clicking on the link towards my site and patiently reading my entries.
- Currently being diverted from the immature perception on the term “blog” – Few years ago when blogging was in the early stage, I saw blog sites that mainly contains cheap rants, which generally advocate hatred on many aspects and even teens’ childish giggles on their highschool crushes or perhaps favorite bands and celebrities. That even made me thought twice of embarking on the blogging scene (‘didn’t even liked the term “blog”). But then, meaningful blog posts from meaningful people gave admirable horizon to blogging.
- Saved from programming languages – Sometime in 2003, I was about to launch a personal website with forum and feedback capability. So, I needed to learn at least PHP or ASP programming language. Time being not that generous to me, I ended up bored and did not publish anything. This time, that’s not a problem anymore given the multitude of these free blog hosting sites.
- Got myself the new habit of making sure that I visit the blog sites listed in my blogroll – As much as time would allow me, I make sure to render a visit on the people’s site in my blogroll. And also, pay respect to those new blog hoppers who followed my site’s link from someone’s site. And yes, I also blog-hop like Kangaroo Jack.
That’s it for me
Sadako’s wish granted! I mean, meme served.
So who’s gonna be infected next? I did a quick glance on my blogroll and I thought of the following blogrollees; Prab, tina, Elaine, Richmond and herb.
Time for “MUTATION, CROSSOVER, and ADAPTATION”
Weekend greetings from Tsukuba, Japan.

I like it that you defined meme so well for the benefit of us who are underinformed. Mutation is right .. the meme undergoes changes from blogger to blogger — sometimes in form only, occasionally in substance. But that makes it more interesting, di ba.
Like you, I didnt think too highly of blogging before. Was thinking how people would wish to publish their personal diaries na ayaw ipakita sa mga nanay. Hey, it is now a respectable outlet for one’s creativity. Am I right or am I correct.

The thing is, at first, I was totally unaware of the meaning of “meme”. So I did a few talk with Mr.Google and got enlightened. It is good to know that the enlightenment is extended to other people as well.
Yes, you are right. Blogging has become a tool to enhance the best in everyone’s hidden talent.

Thanks for the cheers. now im wondering how far my writing would progress. back in my office kasi, puro technical papers ang sinusulat namin and those things that you can see in the project proposals. my level in blogging is really very elementary.
@Abaniko

@verns
Yes, just like the mutant ninja turtles or maybe x-men? (sounds something else to me though). #4 is all about programming languages which are capable of receiving and storing feedbacks and or comments through a website
