On page 123

Open sesame!
Well, I was actually asked to open page 123 of the nearest book that I can grab – through a meme done by annamanila. And when I saw the book, I had the slight grin (these people ain’t gonna like what’s written in here). Especially if you’re the type of person who did not have good companionship with mathematics or statistics. Anyway, let’s just hope that you can learn to get by it and give some lovin’ (yeah, better be or suffer
). This sounded like what some of my friends are doing everytime they are undecided and needed to open a random page of the Bible and thereby seek for spiritual message and glad tidings.
The instructions were these:
- Grab the nearest book.
- Then turn to page 123
- Mark the fifth sentence. Pick up the next three sentences and post. (In other words, post sentence nos. 6-8 on page 123.)
- Acknowledge the book and the author.
- Tag 3 people in turn.
And here we go!
Written on page 123, sentences #6-8:
However, the data miner must therefore strictly limit the use of multicollinear model to estimation and prediction of the target variable. Interpretation of the model would not be appropriate, since the individual coefficients may not make sense in the presence of multicollinearity. To assist the data analyst in determining which variables should be included in a multiple regression model, several different variable selection methods have been developed, including (1) forward selection, (2) backward elimination, (3) stepwise selection, and (4) best subsets.
If I may supply a rough layman’s interpretation, I can say, there is danger in the excessive existence of certain thing in a certain group of things, within the context of representation analysis. Because there is a tendency of over-representation and exploitation of a thing’s representative effects. (still with me? Ah, yes, not much worries.. it will pass
)
That was taken from the book “Data Mining; Methods and Models” by Daniel T. Larose. I don’t think if you’re familiar but he’s with the Department of Mathematical Sciences of the Central Connicticut State University.
There were very good reviews on this book, and of course the author, in the amazon.com page so I included it in my laboratory book requests.
In return, I’m tagging the following (oh poor souls.. pasensya na po) : Cai, Sasha and Elaine.
Done!
(whistling around)

Opo, eto po mga klase ng libro na binabasa ko. Ang sabi nga e, medyo simple na daw ang pagkakagawa sa libro na ito, pero mukhang iba na ang dating ng level sa akin

its like pyramiding if you have a quota to pass the tag. like “tag 5 people”
but if tehre is no quota in tagging its networking.
