Our Color Preference

When I was in Japan I noticed that the Japanese people mostly have blemish free skin even old ones. Maybe the weather is a factor in it and what they eat and drink too I guess. They also love to bathe in hot springs. While in the Philippines, because it is a tropical country, people are prone to skin bacterial infections like pimples and the like. That’s why skin whitening products and exfoliants are very much in demand in the market. Variety of beauty skin care products, like acne treatment, are just around the corner. How ironic it is to think that while Filipinas love to whiten their skin, the caucasians want theirs tanned. Ah, we all live in a constant state of dissatisfaction. Probably a strong remainder of the colonial mentality that has been ingrained into our minds, that white is better or being white makes you superior and above the rest.
Well, if we take a look at the real spectrum of the world’s trend, who dominates the area of sports and music and other industry so to speak? Or at least, who are there on the pinnacle? It is crystal clear that things have surpassed the dimension of color and ethnicity. Things have grown up and went out of the shackling mental illness that such color is better than the other.
I guess it is high time that we should start realizing the fact that contentment is indeed a great virtue, just like patience. Take a look at those who are so fond of having facial augmentations and repairs. They might be happy for a certain period of time but how many of them have unfortunately suffered from medical malpractice and grave side effects of facial and body alterations?
As what they say, beauty is just skin deep. What matters most is your attitude and inner self. Whatever color of skin you prefer, it does not make you a better person.
Our color preference may represent us in the domain of psychology or symbolism to that effect but that’s all it.
