Top 10 Mad Scientists, do you know them? A friend came across this article at LiveScience and thought it would interest your usual curious minds. Here we go:
10. Johann Konrad Dippel - 17th-century alchemist who was noted as the inventor of Prussian Blue and was very famous in his endless quest for elixirs of immortality.
9. Wernher von Braun – loaded his toy wagon with some firecrackers and shot off across a crowded German street. The inspiration behind Hitler’s V-2 rocket program.
8. Robert Oppenheimer – Known for his great sympathies for socialism and his conflicted feelings over dropping the atomic bombs.
7. Freeman Dyson – a known nuclear physicist and prolific writer. A great believer of extraterrestrial life and thinks we’ll make contact within the next few decades.
6. Richard Feynman – Among the Manhattan team to produced atom bomb. He explored music and nature, decoded Mayan hieroglyphics and picked locks in his spare time.
5. Jack Parsons – Co-founder of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. A magic practitioner and calling himself the Antichrist. No formal education but was able to develop a rocket fuel that would guide the United States through WWII and into space. Parsons blew himself up during a lab experiment at his home in 1952.
4. James Lovelock – Inventor of the world-as-super organism Gaia Hypothesis. Held predictions about climate change. He believed that a massive die-off of about 80 percent of humans by 2100 is inevitable.
3. Nikola Tesla – Credited with the invention of the wireless radio and the AC generator that kick-started the electrical age. He often used his own body as a conductor in public demonstrations.
2. Leonardo da Vinci – Famous with his paintings of Renaissance art. Made the Italian’s scientific sketchbooks, most written in mirror-image cursive. Created the fantasy land of oddball machines and brilliant designs, where his rudimentary helicopter is one of his great pieces.
1. Albert Einstein – Known for his theories of relativity and great contributions to the fields of gravitation and quantum theory. Sometimes he takes his sailboat out on the water on windless days, “just for the challenge.”
