Coffee

Recently, I have been trying so hard (well.. I must) not to indulge with coffee too much but sometimes, I cannot help it given the pressures that necessitate long hours of being awake. Times when I need to stay in front of a PC for maybe round the clock will definitely make me think of taking cups of coffee to keep my eyes open and my concentration working. But I must take heed of a medical advise for my hyper acidity. STAY AWAY FROM COFFEE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!!!

On the contrary, I was not able take heed to such advise. One day, I bought these 3 cans of coffee from the convenience store just in front of my apartment before heading to my research lab. I had to make a presentation in our weekly seminar concerning my research progress, and with the other side things that I have to attend to, what’s left are wee hours supposed to be spent in my precious room and bed slumbering. So there, I had Nescafe, Georgia and DyDo. Notably, “Nescafe” was the one that made me really awake. I don’t know.. it tasted like a latte and not that too strong for a coffee but I felt it kicking down the nerves, round the clock.
The next day was the seminar day. Good thing, the presentation will be in the afternoon, so I still managed to brush up things before presenting. And yes, I had to attend my 1-hr and 15-min nihonggo class too.
During these times, I can easily be overridden with doing quick meals. So, although I can manage to cook meals at home, most of them are fried things, if not processed products from the convenience stores. Speaking of fried foods, too much oil in my food will also trigger hyper acidity. Then on Friday, just after our midterm test for nihonngo, I felt that something wrong is going to happen. Some pain is about to get worse. My stomach was somewhat crumbling inside. It must have been the coffee trio I had successively. So, I hurried back home, cooked the right meal and ate, took my medicines and rested. Rain poured down that whole day so I had the chance to take a decent sleep. I woke up at 2pm, cooked lunch then washed my clothes.
I wonder how would things be in the future with this trend of living and condition of my stomach. Time and again, I have to watch out every intake. Watch out for coffee, too much oil, foods with too much milk in it, and the list can go on.
I just noticed that as you progress with this age component of life, things become more sensitive. I mean, when we were young, almost always, we just take almost whatever we like, have fun whenever we feel like it and go on and pass the day with just the thought of what we can do for fun the next day. Having seemingly forgotten that as time passes by, things would never be the same again. You have to cope up with the natural movement of living – adjust to your own phase as a human being and social entity.
Now I can no longer drink coffee the way I do in my college days. Now I have to be more aware of the balance of foods that I am going to take.
But I love coffee.
Ah, I love this temporary life despite the vast multitude of those fleeting things.

I was never health conscious…well until now actually but you are right. As we grow older we must be more careful with the things we put inside our mouth (now that sounded a little bit uhhmmm hehehe ) Anyway I like coffee too but sheesh..three cans? Cannot be tutubi hehe
Sometimes when things like this arises, you wish you’re home and eating your mother’s healthy cooking

I grew up in a family that’s pretty much health conscious.. ever since my parents got sick. Now, we are much more careful with our eating habits. We drink coffee almost everyday.. but it’s caffeine content is just .06%. Hehe. Im not sure if this coffee keeps you awake… but just for the sake of having to drink it everyday.. is enough.. since i love coffeee… hehe.

I am sorry that you can’t indulge in one of the simplest delights of life. Would taking it decaff help? I
Dimaks, when I get stressed esp in the workplace — especially when I am about to deliver a lecture or a presentation — I get a bum stomach too — coffee or no coffee.
Guess we just have to learn to cool it. Sometimes I ask myself what is the worst that could happen during a presentation. Forget some points? (i got notes and the PPP). Stutter? (well, never mind that — as long as i talk sense). Stumble on a punchline? (so don’t crack a joke). Etc. etc.

Most people have think that because they’re young, they can just eat anything and have no control over their appetite. Starting a healthy diet and lifestyle at a young age is like building a strong healthy foundation for when you grow old. I’m not saying that it’s too late to change to a more healthy lifestyle but some of the illnesses and health problems we might have in the future are effects of the past.
I’m sure there are other alternatives you can do or take to keep yourself awake instead of drinking coffee or other caffeinated beverages.
